Promotion of breakthrough in Lithuanian industrial automation

5 March 2024 - 6 September 2024

Problem

According to Lithuanian Ministry of Economy and Innovation, Lithuania is an industrialized state with the manufacturing sector contributing around 20% of the country’s GDP. However, our industry faces challenges in terms of worker productivity and efficiency when compared to other European countries. In 2021 Eurostat stated that, Lithuania ranks 19th out of 27 EU member states, lagging behind countries such as Slovakia or Estonia. Lithuania lags significantly behind the global average for robots’ density in manufacturing, with only around 20 robots per 10 000 people compared to the global average of 151. Additionally, the manufacturing sector faces challenges due to the labor shortage and the rising cost of it. It is crucial to tackle these issues in order to maintain and strengthen stagnating Lithuania’s industrial sector.

Automation and robotization presents a viable solution to the problems mentioned above. It offers the potential to boost individual productivity levels and streamline repetitive, monotonous and hazardous tasks. Higher automation and efficiency of our industry would make it more competitive, scalable and would unlock new opportunities for both businesses and Lithuanian economy as a whole.

Goal

The aim of the project is to assess current level of automation in Lithuania’s manufacturing industry and offer solutions for its enhancement.
