Motivation

I won’t write about returning to Lithuania or the feeling of missing it, because I have never left. At the same time, I have never had the chance to look at it from a distance and see its possibilities from a different perspective. Although my roots here run deep, for a long time I struggled to find where I could grow.

Over the past few years, I have been searching more actively for my place and role: I joined the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union, became more involved in my local community, and started asking myself, “What kind of citizen do I want to be?”

For six years, I did creative but solitary work. Create Lithuania opened a window into the public sector – a world that would have been much harder for me to enter otherwise. I came here driven by curiosity about how the state works and by a desire to take an active role in it. Here, I am looking for my own answer to what it means to be a citizen who does not simply observe, but takes part in shaping the country.
